Final Reflection

So when I started my search about four weeks ago I was looking to answer the question '' is nursing the right career for me?". I figured that this would be a hard question to answer because there is really no way to find out if a career is "right'' for you. I figured to answer my big question I was going to have to first answer a few smaller questions. Some of these questions were "What qualities do you need to become a nurse?", "What is the job of a licensed practical nurse?, and "Is there going to be a good job outlook?".

To find the answers to the job of an lpn I talked to my aunt who is an lpn and I also searched it on Google. The answers that I got from both my aunt and the search on Google were pretty much the same. I got answers such as taking temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and much more. But over all the things that a nurse does it seems I could handle doing after I got the right training to do so.To find out the qualities it took to be a nurse I also searched Google. The qualities that I found that it takes to be an lpn I consider myself to have. I also found the job outlook for a nurse to be very good and I think I wouldn't have trouble finding a job.

So after I had answered all of my little questions I still had trouble answering the big question. I found myself to have the qualities that someone would need to become a good nurse and I also think that I will be able to handle the work that an lpn has to do everyday. Then I realized that I was having trouble coming up with an answer because there was no simple yes or no answer to really know if nursing will be right for me.

I think that the only real way to find out if nursing is right for me is to just go to school for it as I planned to. If nursing really isn't the right career for me than I could always just go back to school to become something else. But I think with all of the information that I looked up on licensed practical nurses that if I payed attetion in nursing school I will know what I'm doing and I could become a very good nurse. So even though I'm not one hundred percent sure that nursing is the right career for me, the most I could do is work hard in nursing school and I think I could be a good nurse.

My Final Reflection

For my final reflection I learned that my question, why should hockey fights be banned really doesn't have a definite answer.
It mostly is based on people's opinions on whether or not they should be banned. I found that a lot of people don't want them to be banned because they are the big crowd pleaser and that they at the end of the game is the reason people are spending their money on a hockey ticket. On the other hand you then have the people who say that they should be banned for the fear of a serious life-threatening injury ( Zednik, Malarchuck incident) for example.

Both of those players (Zednik left wing for the Florida Panthers and Malarchuck, goalie at the time for Buffalo) had experienced the same type of injury, a sharp skate right to the neck. Even though neither of them were injured by fighting, it doesn't mean that it wont happen to any other player who actually does experience that as an effect of a fight. I mean you can't play ICE hockey without skates and I'm not saying that the fights should be banned because in my opinion I don't think they should. The players should realize the type of seriousness there is with fighting. They may not intend to cut another player or cause them a concussion but it just may happen all because they want the fans to be happy and excited and not just sit through a boring game of guys just skating back and forth .

I didn't have much success with finding an answer because like I stated earlier I believe my question is opinion based and it's either you want them to be banned following a complete good reason as to why you want them banned or you just simply don't want them banned with an explanation. However I did find out that more people don't want them banned compared to the people who do. Reading the "banners" opinions and their reasons to ban them actually have made a lot of sense to me. I would hate to watch another player get seriously injured by having his neck sliced open as a result of fighting. Some people say that it's all planned out and that nothing really serious would happen in a hockey fight but there is always that good 50% chance that there might actually be.

On the other hand reading the "non-banners" opinions I fully agree with them. I would rather spend my money on a good game with at least some good hard checking into the boards- punches to the face- jerseys over the head- knocking you flat on your face kind of fight instead of spending it on a game that I would want to scratch my eyes out at or drool on the person next to me because I fell asleep. All in all it's back to the fact you either want them to be banned or you don't. We may never know the answer until the day they actually become banned.

Final Reflection

Starting my search four weeks ago to answer my “BIG” question, Should I become a Veterinarian? I had to answer some foundational questions. Is this the right career choice? What type of Veterinarian would I be successful at? What are some of the procedures Vets do when performing surgery? And how much do they make yearly?

Researching these foundational questions I learned, they help animals and humans by looking for diseases that can be in animals that are harmful to humans. Some Veterinarians do Private-practices on large animals and other Vets work in animal hospitals, working on the basic house pets such as cats, dogs, hamsters, etc.

The different types of veterinarian’s they stated were; companion animal vet (dog, cat, and exotic pets), shelter animal vet, dairy vet, beef cow, etc. Also if you pursue in being one kind of Vet you can “change your mind, or be available to help in another area if needed.” When becoming a Vet your education does not fade. You can practice Veterinarian studies in several practices. There are Private Practices, Government, Teaching and research, and some work in their own fields. In Private Practices, they examine them; perform surgery and dentistry, take blood and urine tests, and manage there own business.

“Surgery performed on animals by veterinarians. Most veterinarians perform surgery, but it is also possible to specialize in surgery by becoming board certified”. Board certified, a designation earned by a person to assure that he/she is qualified to assure that he/she is qualified to perform a job. Each “patient” has to have a chart. The chart consists of “the surgery or other procedure was performed, exactly what was done, what follow-up medical procedures should now be carried out, what exercise routine is appropriate, and what foods the patient should eat and avoid”. Explained how Laser Surgery was a better option than Regular Surgery. Laser Surgery is "recognized in human and Veterinary medicine for its benefits to both the patient and the surgeon". Its carbon dioxide laser reduces pain, bleeding, swelling, infection, and makes a quicker recovery. Also this "procedure" smoothly cuts or removes the tissue. It cuts or removes the tissue. It is recommended for cyst removal, ear crop, neuter, and many other procedures.

About less than a year they make $55,114; between 5-9 years they make $68,779 and twenty years or more it's about $75,893. "Just as there is no one kind of veterinarian, there is no single average salary of a veterinarian, nor is there one easy answer to the question 'What is the salary of a veterinarian?' Researching Careers - Veterinarians Salary by Years Experience shows that veterinarian salaries increase steadily with experience, making it a fairly stable career choice." It also depends on the location of where the Veterinarian works. Stating "The average salary of a veterinarian working in San Diego is fairly close to the average salary of a veterinarian working in Boston; vets on either coast are compensated well. The notable standout for earning a top veterinarian salary is Los Angeles, which currently offers the highest veterinarian salaries by far." Basically you need to know the location and what type of Veterinarian you want to be before you can find out how much they make yearly.

This research was a great success not only did I answer my “BIG” question but I found more information on my topic. I found that there are many different Vets, what they do, how they do it and importantly the education never fades. Also researching this information I now know more about what my Career is going to be. Now applying this information to what I already knew I won’t go into the Career and back out of it when I find something I don’t like in the field.

a persons input on abortions!

I asked my mother Diane Cooper age 41 what she thought about abortions and she thinks its a mothers choice whether or not she want to aborted a child! She said she had one before because she had already had 3 children and could not provide the proper care for another child!she said she was on birth control but it was not as effete as it is today!she said after she read my information on the different kinds of abortions she thinks its not fair to have an abortion so late she thinks if you decide to have one it should b during the first 3 months of pregnancy!other wise she feels that it's wrong! My in put on this is i feel abortion is wrong but sometimes you got to do what you got to do and you should decide early if you are going to have one or not!WHATS YOUR OPP ION ON THIS?

Final Week

For the final week in my research I didn't know what else to search for or where to go.I sat around my house and dug through a couple of boxes that I had old hockey tapes in.I went through a few and started to fast forward through the game until I got to a fight and then I stopped to watch the crowds reaction.

The fight was against Rob Ray (Sabres) and Toronto's Tie Domi. From the look on the crowds face I would say that besides watching the game that fight made their night. The looks on their faces were priceless. Ray threw a punch and then another. The people in the front row, I thought that they were going to break the glass they were pounding so hard on it. It seemed like every tape I went through, each fight I watched, Ray was somehow involved.

On another tape it was yet again Domi and Ray going at it and this time the tables were turned. Domi was getting the hits and the crowd didn't seem to be so moved just because it was still in Buffalo and well we don't like the Leafs so everyone was booing Domi like usual. As I'm still trying to figure out why people want the fights to be banned I can't seem to find any REAL answer. It just seems like there is none. It's just a matter of opinions and the people's reasons behind their opinions.

Almost there not quite finished

My search on criminal psychology continues I have interviewed many many people, but my results still remain the same so i decided to just go online and research the topic myself so I decided to go to google and type in criminal psychology one day when i was at home just sitting in my living room watching spongebob squarepants eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and drinking a nice cold glass or strawberry milk (it was reallllllyyyy reallyyyy tasty) so anywho whie I was on the computer searching for my topic I came across a site about criminal psychology it had all of the answers to my questions and many more informational facts about criminal psychology but then we blew a fuse and everthing shut down and i lost all of my information that i had found and when I attempted to find it again I couldn't I coudnt remember any of the things that i had went through in order to get the information!!!!! interview on gangs

I interviewed Danny and Larry about gangs to help me with my project and my first question was how do you feel about gangs? Danny feels that gangs are over rated, "why fight over just a street name".Larry said,"that they are pointless".I asked them was they apart of a gang both said no,then i ask have they ever lost a family member due to a gang related problem Danny said"no,but she has seen one of her friend's get hurt by one and Larry said"no but almost",and my last question was do you feel that if gangs didn't exist that the world would be a peaceful place Danny said that she feel that it would be a better place for teen but at the same time it still would be violence but not as much an Larry feel that it wouldn't make a difference.

Danny is wearing some pink jeans with a white and brown blouse and Larry has on a green jacket with some blue jeans. With the interview both was speaking clearly.

week four in the search about nursing

For the last week in the search I found it was hard to think of anything else to look up about nursing that would help answer my question. I think that over the last few weeks I answered pretty much all questions. But after having a discussion with Mr. Malley I realized I had a few more things to search.

I thought I would look up more about what kind of a nurse I would want to be and the different schools in Buffalo that offered it.I thought about becoming a licensed practical nurse because thats what my aunt is and I think that I could always go back to school to become a registered nurse, which takes a higher level of education than an lpn.

So I typed in "lpn schools in buffalo'' into Google and i clicked on one of the sites. It showed a list of all of the schools around Buffalo that offered lpn training. I clicked on a site with a list of some schools in the Buffalo area alot of the schools listed where different boces all over New York. Boces is where I planned to go for nursing.

Third Week Research and Still the Same Info...

As I continue my research I decided to try a different search engine.I went to Infotrac.com and I typed in "hockey fights" in the search field and it was taking forever to load into Firefox. As I was waiting for this thing to load i was helping Heather as was Jill with her citations that she was doing wrong the entire time.

I kept clicking continue like a billion times and still nothing. I decided to exit out and try Safari and well it worked. So I went back to Infotrac.com and redid everything. I searched hockey fights and clicked on the "news"tab that had 72 findings. I went to the second page and found an article that really caught my eye.("Why do ice hockey players enjoy brawling?")

As I opened it I was thinking to myself "ok this is going to be a good article that's going to give me more information that I need and that I don't already know as to why people want the fights banned." Instead if this "great article" I got about a half of a paragraph not even about 3 sentences of stuff I already found out. It basically said the same thing my friend Erica had told me
in the interview I had with her. It said "that the fights are so prevalent in ice hockey because there is so much physical contact and that it is in the interest of giving the people their money's worth."

A program to help gang violence

There are some programs that are trying to help gangs from spreading. One program is called G.R.E.AT which stands for gang resistance educations and training. This program a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. It tired to encourage positive relationships among the community, parents, schools, and law enforcement officers.

This website was confusing to me and also it was very frustrating. The site did give a lot of information at all.

Veterinarian's Salary- Week Four

As I sit here thinking about what to type in google search. I began to chat with Jill and Megan. Then it came to me. What I was going to search was veterinarian's Salary. So I typed it in. Then I realized I needed to use the bathroom. Well I can hold it, such little time and so much research.(google)

On google I found an option that definitely fit my question. What is the average salary Veterinarians make yearly? This website (payscale.com) showed the median salary they make for less than a year to twenty years or more. About less than a year they make $55,114; between 5-9 years they make $68,779 and twenty years or more it's about $75,893. As it states "Just as there is no one kind of veterinarian, there is no single average salary of a veterinarian, nor is there one easy answer to the question 'What is the salary of a veterinarian?' Basically you need to know the location and what type of Veterinarian you want to be before you can find out how much they make yearly.

The spread of gang violence

Gang violence has spreads throughout America its increasingly becoming a problem in the rural areas.Regent NYG Survey documents has stated that small towns are not immune to the youth gangs.Police reports in 1996-1998 has stated that 22.6% are persistent gang problems,57% are persistent absence gang problems, and 20.4% are transitory gang problems. Also these percents are continued to raise.
Police say gangs a problem in Gaston.According to a police quote"they have to stop the and stop it now".

This was a little frustrating at times but for the most of it was great.

Week Three In The Search About Nursing

I started my three week of research right here in the English room. I went to Infotrac and typed in ''qualities it takes to be a nurse'' and nothing useful came up, so then I just simply typed in ''nursing'',and I still couldn't find anything. So I just went to Google and while I was waiting for it to load I put on some cherry blossom hand sanitizer on and I gave some to Megan and Heather to use too.

Once Google loaded I again typed in ''qualities it takes to be a nurse" and a lot of websites came up so I clicked the first one,it was a website wiki answers, where someone had already asked the question and other people answered it. The one answer said "friendly and cares for the patients''. Another answer said "good communication skills". I think that have those skills but I decided to look some more because there has to be a lot more that it takes to be a nurse than just that.

So than I clicked on another website and it basically said a nurse should have "kindness, good common sense, carefulness, quietness, neatness, handiness, cheerfulness."I also think that I have those qualities and maybe nursing is the right career for me.

Near Death Experiences

For my research on "What really happens after we die'' this week i sat on my computer and tried to think of where i can go. I went on Yahoo and typed in my question then clicked on the first thing that popped up (Probe Ministries) on this website they had many different perspectives on the afterlife. Some people (atheists) believe that there is no afterlife that we just die our souls don't even continue on existence basically all we look forward to is death, but by us having near death experiences it proves them wrong.

Near death experiences means your pronounced clinically dead not biologically. This means that basically your soul leaves the body and watches whats going on from above (Zukeran) seeing a light, entering a dark tunnel, seeing others, meeting a spirit, experiencing peace and then finally returning to the body. Many people have experienced it for example this girl that was near death was able to describe what her family did that night and ate. People can actually describe every little detail.

So by people having these experiences it still leaves many unanswered questions lingering around, like does something different happen to everyone? It just keeps me wanting to know more.

Making More Sense ...

For the second week of my research I thought I would ask my good friend, Erica whose pretty much into hockey as I am what her thoughts about banning fights in hockey were. We hardly see each other so I decided to message her on the computer via AIM. I asked her what she thought about the idea of the fights being banned and as she was typing her answer I noticed that my computer screen was kind of dirty and that I should probably go and clean it off. As I was getting up to go downstairs to grab some cleaner she had sent her answer to me.

She said after about what seemed to be a half hour of typing in bright red colored font "no why would you want to ban something that sells more and more hockey tickets each year. I like seeing someone get the living hell beat out of them by another player. Take the Ottawa/Buffalo brawl when Andrew Peters (Sabres) went after Ottawa's goalie Ray Emery. That was pretty priceless and entertaining and I was mad that I couldn't be there to see it in person. Plain and simple the more they fight the more it heightens the rivalry between the teams and sells more tickets so more people become hockey fans because of it."

I just sat there and stared at the screen rubbing my eyes because her response was pretty long an bright, but it made more sense to me and she was kind of right. The fights seem like they're the reason that the tickets are being sold. It seems that more people now a days are buying hockey tickets because they expect to see a fight or some kind of argument and get their moneys worth.

Procedures Done by Vets in Surgery- Week Three

As I sit here waiting for the computer to load, a new website I’m trying called infotrac, Mr. Malley (English teacher) told us about. I began to rub Bath and Body Works’ Cherry blossom hand sanitizer on my hands. By the way, the smell is awesome! The end of my enjoyment has come, my hands being clean and germ free was now over; it was done loading and I again began my search. I typed in “Procedures done by Vets done in surgery” but it seems that there was no results so I tried to rephrase it and put “Veterinarians doing Surgery”. This time it was successful. The options I seen were nothing I searched or had in mind of reading. So I clicked the first option anyways, what I was reading was stories of people and there pets. So I decide not to use this website. (Find.galegroup.com)

It’s back to google for me again. It’s so simple. So I typed in what I typed in infotrac, “Veterinarians doing Surgery” and tons of options came up. But first I wanted to know a little about it. Clicking on wikipedia for a description it says, “surgery performed on animals by veterinarians. Most veterinarians perform surgery, but it is also possible to specialize in surgery by becoming board certified”. So I wonder what board certified was. It’s basically “a designation earned by a person to assure that he/she is qualified to assure that he/she is qualified to perform a job”. (Google)(En.wikipedia.org)

So what are the procedures done by Vets in surgery? Each “patient” has to have a chart. The chart consists of “the surgery or other procedure was performed, exactly what was done, what follow-up medical procedures should now be carried out, what exercise routine is appropriate, and what foods the patient should eat and avoid”. (science.education.nih.gov)

On a website cuttingedgevet.com, I found something very interesting to my topic. It explained how Laser Surgery was a better option than Regular Surgery. (www.cuttingedgevet.com)

2ND Blog

I began interviewing my family members first on their thoughts on infidelity but seeing as most of my family that I can actually come to and ask questions are men and they find nothing wrong with infidelitythat didn't work out too good. S I went to my second plan (plan B) I asked my friends They came up with some pretty good things. Here's what some of them said:

I asked My soon to be boyfriend A'marie Bolton and his reply was:

" Infidelity is a feeling of loneliness and emptyness and you want to fill it with the right thing but the thing you have isn't going to fill it, so you go else where to look for it, and when you find it or atleast think you have you want to have your cake and eat it too and when you get caught you tell your spouse that you didn't mean for it to happen like that but it has to be over for that given moment in time because he has or atleast thought he found something better." That one didn't help me out at all I was very confused so I asked my good friend Nakiyah Holman.

Nakiyah Said" Girl cheatin' is cheatin' no matter how you put it, reguardless of how you doin' it, where you doin' it or who your doin' it with it's cheatin'. It has the same effects on guys as it does women and it hurts no matter what it's a part of life get over it."

as you can see neither answer was clear at all so my search continues and hopefully I can do somemore research and figure out something.

Blog #1

I became interested in my top[ic when my boyfriend had cheated on me by having sex with another female and it having no effect on me what so ever but when he told me that he had found another female who could hold his attention and actually relate to what he was saying it made me feel like I wa going to lose this battle. I already know that some people handle relationships and infidelity in different ways , and that infidelity rates have gone up, and I also know that many Men are blaming their infidelity on their fathers. My big question is " WhyDoes It Hurt More When Your Spouse Cheats On You Mentally, than It Does When They Cheat On You Physically And Or Sexually?". My little questions are what are some of the mental and physical effects of infidelity?,What can result from some of the effects of infidelity?, Who Commits Infedility more men or women? Why Do thry do it?, and last but certainly not least is there any way to determine if your partner is being faithful?

week two in the search about nursing

For my research this week I went to Google and typed in licensed practical nurses. There was a lot of websites on LPN's so I just clicked on the first one. On the website there were different topics you could click on so I just clicked on the first one which was Nature of the work.

That part of the website talked about the jobs of nurses which are basically the same as what my aunt told me that she does at her job. I also read that in some states nurses are allowed to prescribe medicines to there patients which surprised me because I didn't think nurses were allowed to do that. I also learned that nurses sometimes have to work nights and on holidays. They also have to stand for long periods of time and move patients around.

After reading about the job of a nurse I thought I would look at a topics about nursing that I didn't know that much about which was the job outlook for LPN's. I read that the employment rate is going to increase for LPN's. This is good because that means I probably won't have that much trouble finding a job. They also need a lot of nurses to work in nursing homes which is where I would like to work

Reincarnation is it possible?

I started my search for "What really happens after we die". I went on (Google) and typed in reincarnation a whole bunch of websites came up but i went to (www.skepdic.com) it had a lot of interesting things about what happens. A lot of people believe in reincarnation its the belief that when you die your body is reborn in another and you live life all over again. Reincarnation also seems to answer alot of unexplained situations. For example When people are put under hypnosis we often remember things from a past life.

If reincarnation is possible they say that it can explain why "Good things happen to bad people and Bad things happen to good people" Its called Karma your being punished or rewarded for something you did in a past life everything always comes back to haunt you.

When i started to read further they also said that when you dream things that you dont know whats happening your having memories of what happened in your other life. But theres also the other question of do we go to heaven or hell. Different people believe in different things.
So what really happens after we die?

Type's of Veterinarians -Week Two

My search began a week ago. Discovering what I have found thus far about the Nature of the Work and deciding if this was the right career choice for me, I had to go in more depth of what I as trying to find. This week I have a different part of my search, what type of Veterinarian would I be successful at?

By doing so I’ve typed in “Type’s of Veterinarian’s” into google. Clicking the best option that fitted the description I was looking for was on WikiAnswers- How many types of veterinarians are there. I read the description very stoked about what I was reading it made me think wow there are so many different types. The different types of veterinarian’s they stated were; companion animal vet (dog, cat, exotic pets), shelter animal vet, dairy vet, beef cow, etc. All these types of vets made me wonder, what one would best fit me and what would I enjoy doing? (Wiki.answers.com)(google.com)

Also if you pursue in being one kind of Vet you can “change your mind, or be available to help in another area if needed.” When becoming a Vet you education does not fade away it sticks by your side like peanut butter and jelly sandwich. (Wiki.answers.com)

You can practice Veterinarian studies in several practices. There are Private Practices, Government, Teaching and research, and some work in their own fields. The description I read about in Private Practices sounds interesting. They examine them; perform surgery and dentistry, take blood and urine tests, and manage there own business. (www.animalhealthcare.ca)

Doing my research leads me to my next question. Would I feel comfortable working on animals? Until next time…

The Search Begins..

I started my research by sitting at my computer for about 2 hours doing nothing but staring at it thinking about which website I should type my question into. After debating whether I should do my search now or wait I ended up doing it and going to google. I typed in my question which was "why should hockey fights be banned?" I clicked the first link that was on the page and it took me to some kind of message board where people were throwing in their opinions on the subject.(rootzoo.com) I started to read the comments and what really caught my attention at first was that the person who first commented compared hockey to other sports. For what reason they did that I don't know.

I started to scroll down to read more of the comments to see what other people thought and it seemed as if they were saying the fights shouldn't be banned (which I agree). What fun would hockey be without the physical altercations? A few of the people started to comment about some old players and who they fought and reading them made me remember the one games with Rob Ray(Buffalo Sabres) and Bob Boughner (Calgary Flames) and when they had got into a fight, one of the referees had gotten injured by catching a high stick right to the eye from Ray. Everyone was going crazy and they were all pumped up throwing stuff around and started to high five each other like they all just won the lottery. That brought me back to my question. Why should the fights be banned? They obviously give off energy and get the crowd going.

Well I started to scroll down more further and one person stated that if you take the fighting away from hockey that you might as well get rid of hockey all together. Then you have the people who say it should be banned because it gets too dangerous for the players. What sport now a days Isn't dangerous or doesn't involve some kind of physical contact?

"should hockey fights be banned? Or should other sports adopt their way of doing things? ." rootzoo.com 12 2 2008 23 04 2008

How many gang are in america

I want to yahoo.com and type in my question to answer my inquiry questions.I found out that there are 4,881 gangs in American with 249,324 members that was estimated in 1991. Base on Curry's (1993)Law Enforcement survey.I expected to find different groups of gangs names but i actually found out the number which was also good information.Gangs violence has increased rapidly according to Curry's Law Enforcement.

I had some good experience with this site ,it wasn't frustrating at all.I had a great time on this site and it answer all my questions without me having to go to a lot of sites.

Week One In The Search About Nursing

To start off my search to find out if becoming a nurse would be the right career for me I thought I should ask someone in the career field about nursing. So I asked my aunt who is a lpn, which is the kind of nursing I was interested in, to tell me a little bit about her job.

I asked her about her job while I was at my grandparents house. We were sitting in the living room,I was sitting on their old lumpy couch. She told me she works at a pediatricians office, she takes the weight, height, and blood pressure of the patients. She also gives shots to them. She also told me that she loves working with the children and enjoys her job very much. This didn't help me very much because just because she enjoys being a nurse doesn't me I will. She also told me that in the past she has worked at different nursing homes doing the similar type of things as she does at the pediatricians office. I think I would like working at a nursing home because helping out elderly is why I first became interested in becoming a nurse.

So talking to my aunt didn't really help that much except I think that if nursing is really right for me I would like to work with elderly people in a nursing home. I think to answer my big question I will have to find alot more information about nursing online.

Making the Right Career Choice-Week One

To start my search, I began to do a broad search of Veterinarians. I typed in "Veterinarian" in Google, and all these options came up. I chose to click on the first website. Reading the options it had: Nature of the Work, Training, Other Qualifications, and Advancement, Payment and Job Outlook. What was I going to Choose? I clicked the first option: Nature of the work.

What was I looking for? Reading this selection, it helped me realize what I was looking for. Was I making the right career choice by entering the field of Veterinarian? As I read on I began to figure out so far the search on becoming a Vet was successful. They help animals and humans by looking for diseases that can be in animals that are harmful to humans. Some Veterinarians do Private-practices on large animals and other Vets work in animal hospitals, working on the basic house pets such as cats, dogs, hamsters, etc.

Knowing this information thus far leads to other questions that would further my search. What type of Veterinarian would I be successful at?

What really happens after we die?

I bacame intereted in this topic a while back. Every time i see those t.v. shows about it and after hearig about it all the time it really makes me wonder. I mean where do we go what happens. Nobody can really say exactly where we go or if anything happens to us.

I already know that there has been evidence of reincarnation that people have experienced and came forward about rather its them or someone close to them. Or some people say whoever doesnt get reincarnated their souls just linger the earth.

What really happens after we die? Is there som place that we go to?
Can we reincarnate? How many people has actually
expiernced it? Can people except it?

Should I become a veterinarian?

I became interested in becoming a veterinarian ever since I got my dog 5 years ago. When we took our dog to the veterinarian's office I seen what they do. They clean their ears, check their eyes, mouth and take their temperature, Its kind of like a physical. They also help the animals by bandaging them up when their hurt. Knowing this made me think about helping other animals because I know how much a pet means to a family. If my dog was sick or hurt I know how it feels when there in the care of a vet, reassuring. They care for an animal like it was their own.

What I know about becoming a Veterinarian is that there are all different types. Some for their eyes, and other types, there just like doctors, but for pets. A Vet doesn't only take care of cats and dogs, they take care of wildlife too.

My essential question is should I become a Veterinarian? on the way to answering this "BIG" question there are some foundation questions.
What type of veterinarian would I be successful at? Is this the right career choice? What are some of the procedures do Vets do when performing surgery? Also how much do they make yearly?

What is the difference between teens and adults opinion on abortions?

When I first became Interested...

I first became interested in abortions when I found out that my sister had a complicated labor. She and my niece almost both died because she had a ruptured placenta. She had to have six blood transfusions and it was so bad that she has permanent damage. The doctors told that if she ever got pregnant again she would have to have an abortion because the baby would never develop to full term and if it did there would be a good chance she could die while giving birth. It killed her to know that she would have to have an abortion because she doesn't believe in it.

What i know about abortions is they take an undeveloped child and scrap it out of you. I also know that people have many different opinions on it. Some people are against it and others don't care if people have abortions. From young girls its harder to make to decision if an abortion is the right thing or not because they might think its wrong ,but they also are not really ready for a kid either.

what i would like to know is are teenagers really ignorant to the fact that there are other options besides abortions? And my essential question is, Is there really a difference between teenagers and adults opinions on abortions?

Why Do People Want Fights In The NHL To Be Banned?

I've been into hockey ever since I was little. I didn't know exactly know the whole object of the game but I knew that when our team got the puck in the opposite net we got a point and everyone cheered and jumped around.
The beat part that really caught my attention were the fights. Everyone loves a good old fashioned hockey fight. When the fights happened everyone went nuts and knew that one or both teams would be a man short and that someone was on the verge of scoring.
The reason why I got interested in this topic is because I
simply love hockey. I just don't understand why people are
making a big deal out of nothing and I want to know the reason.
Without the fights what would be the point in watching
or playing hockey?
Those parts in the game are the
most exciting and what draws the fans in.
I know it does to me. Another thing would be if there were no
fights, crosschecking, slashing,high sticking etc..
where would the penalties come into play?
There would be none. So pretty much the game would
be boring and people would basically be
sleeping and wasting their time/money.
There was never a problem until now about
fighting in hockey. Some people say it should be banned but
saying that is almost as pointless as saying ice hockey players
shouldn't play with ice skates. So what I want to find out is why do people
want fights in the NHL to be banned?

Is Nursing The Right Career For Me?

How I Became Interested..

I first became interested in nursing when I was in the seventh grade. My grandma became sick with cancer, and my mom and I would go with her to the hospital with her to all of her doctor appointments. While I was there I would see all of the nurses helping the patients. I decided then that I wanted to be a nurse so that I could help out people too. But I began to wonder if nursing would be the right career for me or if I should choose another where I could also help people.

So far I know that some of licensed practical nurses' jobs are to check blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, give shots, etc. Also I know that lpn's work in hospitals, doctors offices, clinics, long term care facilities, or in home health care. Also to be a nurse you would have to be patient, caring, and friendly towards all of your patients.

I definately want a career where I can help people daily. But recently I have been wondering if there could be some other career that I could be better at and still get to help people. So my essential question is, Is nursing the right career for me?

ESSENTIAL QUESTION

I am interested in gangs because I lost a good friend and my first cousin because they were in a gang. My friend Dellz was the youngest of his gang when he lost his life in a gun fight. He was only 13.And my cousin Tank lost his life when he was sitting in his car chilling some gang just started shooting his car up.

I know that gang killings are at there highest point and now a days gangs are worse then what they were when my parents were growing up.People are taking gangs to the extreme you have family members killing each other just cause they are from different gangs. Its a blessing if you can live pass the age of 13 now a days.

My essential question is, is gangs taking over our society and what can be done to control this?

about him hurting innocent things.
The next day they found out that one of their friends have
been found dead, she just couldnt get
past about what happened.
If you were sadie would you have any thoughts
about your boyfriend having to
with the murder?

Kiss of Death by Peter Beere pgs.1-24

Do the characters seem real and believable? The character Sadie seems real and believable to me. She has the same problems as a lot of teenage kids. In the story her dad is getting remarried to a woman she doesn't like and they are drifting apart. Along with her new stepmother comes a bratty stepsister who tries to make Sadie's life miserable. Her stepsister Eleanor blames Sadie's mothers death on her and tries to make her leave her boyfriend . Eleanor is trying to take Sadie's place with her dad. Alot of teenagers that are going through the same thing as Sadie deal with it in the same way their mad, scared, hurt about the situation, confused. Shes mad that her stepsister wont leave her alone and making false judgements about her, shes scared because she doesn't know whats going to happen next, and shes hurt that her father moved on and is remarried, and shes confused whether it is her fault or not. What would you do if you were in the same situation as Sadie?

Reacting to a Characters Situation

That Summer by Sarah Dessen
pgs.63-94

Do the characters react the way you think you would in a similar situation? Do you find their actions troubling? Are their actions consistent with their characters? If not, perhaps ask yourself if it is reasonable for anyone to be expected to act consistently in character!

Some of the situations that are similar to the character's would make me react the way they did. Such situation was when Haven ran into an old blast from past, Sumner, when having an outing with her father. Sumner reminded Haven not all people are perfect, they may look like they are but there truly not. Not only did this make Haven realize she was not the only 15 year old that was nearing 6Ft. and still growing, but that Sumner would bring back memories and begin to make new ones. A situation like this one reacts to me in a way that no matter how long a friend is gone, is always the best part. They can give advice, or remind you, your not the only one dealing with such problems.

There actions to situations like this are not so troubling. Other situations, they can be. A situation that is, is when Haven's friend Casey got caught smoking, her parents were furious. The actions the characters make are consistent to them because they are all things we deal with during our younger years, or during life in general.

In what situations or actions can you relate to that the characters have in any reading or in a book you've read?

Telling The Truth May Get You Nowhere.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
(pages 125-150)
Did the plot pull you in,or did you have to force
yourself to read the book?

I didn't have to force myself to read the book at all.
The plot was pretty good and it indeed pulled me in .
It made me want to keep reading even though i would get tired
just to find out if Melinda would tell anybody what happened or
if she would stay wrapped up in her own little world of
blaming herself for what happened, trying to forget
but can't. What really pulled me in was when the boy, Andy (who
she referred to as IT) acted as if he didn't do anything to
her and made her believe she was going crazy.
I was excited to read on to see what or how she
would react to that. Then
by trying to tell her once best friend that
she's dating a rapist she thinks that everything
would go back to being the way it was
when in fact it just made the matters worse
and she was made out to be a liar.
Do you feel Melinda was doing the right thing
by telling someone even though she knew they
wouldn't believe her?

Alone

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
(pages 92-125)
Do the characters seem real and believable?
The main character Melinda does seem real and believable
just because of the situation
Anderson puts her through in the story. She reacts the way any
other rape victim would ashamed, embarrassed, quiet and afraid.
Ashamed because shes feels like it was all her fault it happened.
Embarrassed because she thinks people would judge
her if she said anything. Quiet because she thinks no matter
who she told they wouldn't believe her. And afraid because
if she told the wrong person it might
get back to him and he might come after her
again.Another way she seems believable is because the
book is set mostly in her first year of high school and is going through
the typical freshman "vibe",which is trying to make/find friends , finding a seat at lunch and talking about what happened
over the summer which in her case she doesn't want to relive.
What would your reaction be if you were
Rachel (Melinda's ex- best friend) and she told you that
the boy you are dating was the one who raped her?

To Believe Or Not To Believe? That Is The Question.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
(pages 56-92)
Sometimes we are pulled towards one or
more characters in the story ,we identify with them or
feel sympathy for them.
I do feel sympathy for Melinda because she was
raped, didn't know how to handle the
situation and going into high school knowing
her friends are mad at her and don't want anything to do
with her has to be very hard and upsetting for someone.
Going to school everyday and seeing her ex best friend Rachel dating the
boy who raped her and knowing she can't say anything because
she feels like Rachel wont believe her must drive her insane because I
know it would if I was in her position. On top of that
she didn't tell her parents what happened and that really
makes me feel bad for her
because it's like she cant trust her own family to believe
her either. If you were in Melinda's position would you tell your parents or friends what happened thinking to yourself
would they believe you or not or
would you handle the situation yourself?

Thin about tee book as if it had taken place in your neigborhood in this time period. What would have to change abouth the setting or the characters or anything else about the book?
The Lovely Bones Alice Sebold
Pages 32-76

If this book had taken place in my neighborhood it would have to be alot more urban and the characters would probably be more outspoken than the characters in the book are and the characters in my neighbor hood would most likely be more agressive than the characters in the book

Think about the main character, what is his or her motivation in this story?
The Lovely Bones, Alice Sebold
pages 32-76

Susie Salmons motivation in this book is to keep leaving behind clues to lead her mother father and the police to who her killler is so tat they can all sleep at night knowig that the terrible God awful man that did this to their daughter is in jail where he belongs. Its as if Susie was still alive but she didnt know how to tell her parents or she couldnt so she had to leave them clues so that everybody could just breathe easier.

Do the characters react the same way they would in a normal situation?
The Lovely Bones Alice sebold
Pages 32-76

Yes the characters react the same way in the book that they would as if it were real when susie gets raped her mother is automatically worred about her and her well being because she couldnt find her daughter and of course like all fathers her father is also concerned but is mot trying to show it because he is a man and he is supposed to be strong not only for himself but also for his family.

Has there ever been a tme where you felt you needed to be strong for someone else besides yourself but you just knew that eventually you would crack??
Do the characters react the same way they would in a normal situation?

Looking For Alaska by John Green p. 166-212

One character in Looking For Alaska that I sympathize for is one of the main chracters Alaska. In the beginning when the Alaska is first introduced she seems very happy and wild. She also had the perfect relationship and was in love. It seemed like she had a perfect life.

But as I continued reading I realized that Alaska had alot of problems and that she was really depressed, even though in the beginning she came off as very happy with her life. As I read I discovered alot of the problems Alaska was facing and the many problems she had to face in her past. I deffinently sympathize for her, even tho I can't relate to the problems that she was facing.

did you or did you ever have a friend who seemed happy, but was really having alot of problems?

This Book relates to my life because I can relate to alot of the thngs that susie is saying and doing in her life and I can also relate to some of the things that happened to her in this book. Susie is a young teenage girl who is curious and she trusts the adults around her and she expects them to lead by example and when this adult that she expects to lead by example doesnt she does not know how to react.

Have you ever expected someone to lead by example and they didnt? If so how did you react?

The plot of That Summer

That Summer by Sarah Dessen pgs.35-62

The plot of That Summer happens with Lydia Catrell (neighbor) knocking at the back door to Haven's house only wanting to discuss the guest list and invitations to Ashley's (Haven's older sister) wedding to her fianc'e Lewis Warsher, over a cup of coffee.

Then Lydia changing Haven's mother's wardrobe to this hip and laid back mother, who goes out ever Thursday. Haven only dealing with wedding reminders everywhere and her mother's new look. Ashley needs to pick out a dress to her first sit down dinner with Lewis's parents, the Warshers.

With a plot like this it is only bound to pull you in. Not only is their commotion but twisting things happening around every corner.

What do you think about this plot? Would it pull you in or make you stop reading the book thus far?

Looking For Alaska by John Green p.131-165

The characters in Looking For Alaska deffinently seem beliveable. The story takes place in a high school boarding school and most of the characters are teenagers. The way that the characters talk and act is alot like how really life teenagers act.

Alot of people would disagree with the book and think that it should not be read in schools because it will encourage teens to do some of the things that are mentioned in the book. I think that the characters in the book act like alot like how teens today act. So by reading this book its not going to change the way teens act or what they do because for some people its pretty the way they act anyways

Do you think that reading this book will change the way that teens act?

Looking For Alaska by John Green p. 41-130

So far as I read my book one character that I noticed that changed alot was the main character Miles. Miles was always the kid at his school with no friends, but when he moved to his new school, he sees the opportunity to change his popularity. He starts doing things that could get in exspelled such as drinking, smoking, playing pranks on people, just so he can fit in with them.

I think that this change happened partly because Miles wanted to change his social life so much that he was willing to do things that he didn't really want to do. Another reason that I think brought on this change was Miles interest in his friend Alaska. Miles really liked Alaska and I don't think she is really interested in him because she has a boyfriend. I think that he liked so much that he was willing to do alot of things that he didn't want to do.

Have you ever changed or tried to change who you are to make friends or get someone to like you?

Do The Characters Seem Real and Believable?
Yes the characters in my book seem real and believeable because susie salmon is a young gir about 12 or maybe 13 years old and in the story Alice sebold is making her seem to be that age, because when your just becoming a eenager or you are in your preteenage years you are still a little curious and you still trust alot of the people in your neighbor hood enough to go some where where no one can see nor hear anything that is going on in that place. Alice Sebold makes Susie Salmon seem as if she was too real in some of the things that she says and does in this book I dont think the book is based on a true story i think this book is a book more about what happened in the authors life .

Can you relate to their problems?
Yes I can relate to some of the problems that he characters in the book are having like growing up getiing into boys and make up trusting people too much and allowing myself to be mislead to do something I knew I shouldnt have been doing but i did it anyways because I wanted to.

Have you every been in a situation in which you felt you were doing something you should not have been doing but you did it anyways because you didnt think anything bad was going to come of it???

That Summer by Sarah Dessen (pgs.1-34)

My impressions on the book thus far are very good. The book is about a girl named Haven, she has so many problems dealing with her parents divorce. With her father, Mac-McPhail whom is getting remarried to his co-worker Lorna Queen also known as the "Weather pet" according to her mother. Lorna is meteorologist and Haven's father who is a sports anchor both for channel 5.
Haven and the rest of her family (mother and older sister Ashley) thought their was something going on between them when they sat together whispering and giggling during the credits.

Haven's other main problem is she is fifteen and is growing each day. As Haven looks at Ashley it makes her realize how tall she is. Ashley is twenty-one, petite 5'4, with a curvy body Haven wishes she had.

How would you resolve these problems if you had them?

MY IMPRESSIONS ON MY BOOK

Freedom Songs by Yvette Moore
PAGE:1-5
This book so far is about sheryl her young brother ronnie, older brother craig and father is taveling down south to see there mother. My impressions on this book is that her family are going through tough imes but they are mangeing there problem. Her parents are x slaves. When sherly travels to see hr mother that mean long freedom and good times but as keep taveling back in forth she starts to understand that there not so free they have to drink from a "blacks only" water fountain. This book makes me think of life differently and be happy for what i got causes back then blacks didnt have nothing but there family and sometime not even that.

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson pages 1-56

The book that I am reading is called Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. It is a young adult fiction book that actually has a movie made after it.The main character is a young girl named Melinda Sordino. Melinda had a lot of friends back in junior high one being her best friend, a girl named Rachel. But when they reach high school suddenly Melinda is left with nothing. She has no friends, hardly talks to anyone basically shes a social outcast. When the story starts out Melinda is getting ready to begin her freshman year at Merrywheather High School. She's taking a look around at everyone and their social clicks.
What really caught my attention was that after reading a few pages into the book I noticed that it's a little bit different from the movie.
In the book it says that she meets her new found friend Heather inside the auditorium, but in the movie she meets her on the bus. Also Melinda spends a lot of time at Heather's but again in the movie she's mainly at home. It's really interesting to see how many differences you can find in a book and the movie that was made from the book. You expect the movie to be exactly like the book but it just wouldn't be the same without adding a little more drama to the film.
At first I wasn't sure if I really wanted to read the book because i had seen the movie but now that i know that there are a lot of differences I'm eager to find out how Melinda tells people about what happened that summer night at the party,or if she'll tell anyone at all.

Looking For Alaska Blog #1

The young adult fiction book that I am reading is called Looking For Alaska by John Green. I have read pages 1 to 40 so far.The main character of the novel is Miles. Miles goes to a pubic school and when the book starts he is getting ready to leave to a boarding school. As I continued reading I found out that Miles doesn't have any friends at his school. He spends most of his time reading biographies and learning famous peoples last words. I think that Miles wanted to leave so he could start new. I think that he wanted to go to a new school so he could make friends and where no one knows him as a loser.

When he started hanging out with his roommate Chip I could tell that Miles was starting to change. He bought cigarettes and tried smoking. His roommate smokes and drinks and plays pranks on people. I also find out that a lot of the people at the school don't like Chip, they also don't like Miles because he's friends with Chip.

I am very interested in reading and finding out what is going to happen to Miles. I think that Miles is going to become more like Chip. I think that he will start drinking and smoking jut so he can fit in with Chip and his friends. I also think that Miles will end of getting himself into trouble with Chip just so he can be his friend. I like reading this book so far and I am curious as to what will happen with Miles.

group response

Our group chose to study the young adult fiction genre. We choose this genre because we can all relate to this kind of book. Since we can relate to it we enjoy reading it.
I think that other people would also choose to read young adult fiction for similar reasons. I think that alot of young people can relate to all of the problems that the characters in the novels face.

Kid, we've got to do better.  One post.  74 words.  You've made it on my suspicious persons list.  Get to work.

Great job overall.  Your responses are developed and in some places insightful.   Try not to retell so much plot.  Choose one of the questions and develop that answer fully.

A few questions.  In that last response, you said that the ending fulfilled your expectations.  What did you mean?  What did you need to happen?  Why?  Do you think you can view yourself as a prototypical reader of this type of book?  What does it say about you/human beings that this type of ending is satisfying?

Jillian, I'm glad you like Anderson.  She's great.  I have a couple other authors that I'd recommend, and I think you just chose that Looking for Alaska book.  Anyways, good responses.  They are developed and contain decent insight/analysis and comparisons.  Keep up the good work.

That last post contains a cool comment that I think says a lot about young adult literature (and other literature sometimes (I enjoy reading books about the typical teenage life because sometimes they actually tell your life story without you having to say a word.)).  I might actually steal that.  Actually, I just added it to the sidebar, lol.  Good responses...very developed, but watch the plottiness.  I know two of the final responses were about the book surprising you, but try to focus on that more than retelling the parts of the story.  What did you expect?  Why did you expect it?

Lucky sounds like a good book Ashley.  I like that last response.  I like that you are anticipating what the character is going to have to go through.  How do you feel about the situation?  What does it say about our society?
