That Summer by Sarah Dessen
pgs.63-94
Do the characters react the way you think you would in a similar situation? Do you find their actions troubling? Are their actions consistent with their characters? If not, perhaps ask yourself if it is reasonable for anyone to be expected to act consistently in character!
Some of the situations that are similar to the character's would make me react the way they did. Such situation was when Haven ran into an old blast from past, Sumner, when having an outing with her father. Sumner reminded Haven not all people are perfect, they may look like they are but there truly not. Not only did this make Haven realize she was not the only 15 year old that was nearing 6Ft. and still growing, but that Sumner would bring back memories and begin to make new ones. A situation like this one reacts to me in a way that no matter how long a friend is gone, is always the best part. They can give advice, or remind you, your not the only one dealing with such problems.
There actions to situations like this are not so troubling. Other situations, they can be. A situation that is, is when Haven's friend Casey got caught smoking, her parents were furious. The actions the characters make are consistent to them because they are all things we deal with during our younger years, or during life in general.
In what situations or actions can you relate to that the characters have in any reading or in a book you've read?
