For the second week of my research I thought I would ask my good friend, Erica whose pretty much into hockey as I am what her thoughts about banning fights in hockey were. We hardly see each other so I decided to message her on the computer via AIM. I asked her what she thought about the idea of the fights being banned and as she was typing her answer I noticed that my computer screen was kind of dirty and that I should probably go and clean it off. As I was getting up to go downstairs to grab some cleaner she had sent her answer to me.
She said after about what seemed to be a half hour of typing in bright red colored font "no why would you want to ban something that sells more and more hockey tickets each year. I like seeing someone get the living hell beat out of them by another player. Take the Ottawa/Buffalo brawl when Andrew Peters (Sabres) went after Ottawa's goalie Ray Emery. That was pretty priceless and entertaining and I was mad that I couldn't be there to see it in person. Plain and simple the more they fight the more it heightens the rivalry between the teams and sells more tickets so more people become hockey fans because of it."
I just sat there and stared at the screen rubbing my eyes because her response was pretty long an bright, but it made more sense to me and she was kind of right. The fights seem like they're the reason that the tickets are being sold. It seems that more people now a days are buying hockey tickets because they expect to see a fight or some kind of argument and get their moneys worth.
