Final Reflection

So when I started my search about four weeks ago I was looking to answer the question '' is nursing the right career for me?". I figured that this would be a hard question to answer because there is really no way to find out if a career is "right'' for you. I figured to answer my big question I was going to have to first answer a few smaller questions. Some of these questions were "What qualities do you need to become a nurse?", "What is the job of a licensed practical nurse?, and "Is there going to be a good job outlook?".

To find the answers to the job of an lpn I talked to my aunt who is an lpn and I also searched it on Google. The answers that I got from both my aunt and the search on Google were pretty much the same. I got answers such as taking temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and much more. But over all the things that a nurse does it seems I could handle doing after I got the right training to do so.To find out the qualities it took to be a nurse I also searched Google. The qualities that I found that it takes to be an lpn I consider myself to have. I also found the job outlook for a nurse to be very good and I think I wouldn't have trouble finding a job.

So after I had answered all of my little questions I still had trouble answering the big question. I found myself to have the qualities that someone would need to become a good nurse and I also think that I will be able to handle the work that an lpn has to do everyday. Then I realized that I was having trouble coming up with an answer because there was no simple yes or no answer to really know if nursing will be right for me.

I think that the only real way to find out if nursing is right for me is to just go to school for it as I planned to. If nursing really isn't the right career for me than I could always just go back to school to become something else. But I think with all of the information that I looked up on licensed practical nurses that if I payed attetion in nursing school I will know what I'm doing and I could become a very good nurse. So even though I'm not one hundred percent sure that nursing is the right career for me, the most I could do is work hard in nursing school and I think I could be a good nurse.

My Final Reflection

For my final reflection I learned that my question, why should hockey fights be banned really doesn't have a definite answer.
It mostly is based on people's opinions on whether or not they should be banned. I found that a lot of people don't want them to be banned because they are the big crowd pleaser and that they at the end of the game is the reason people are spending their money on a hockey ticket. On the other hand you then have the people who say that they should be banned for the fear of a serious life-threatening injury ( Zednik, Malarchuck incident) for example.

Both of those players (Zednik left wing for the Florida Panthers and Malarchuck, goalie at the time for Buffalo) had experienced the same type of injury, a sharp skate right to the neck. Even though neither of them were injured by fighting, it doesn't mean that it wont happen to any other player who actually does experience that as an effect of a fight. I mean you can't play ICE hockey without skates and I'm not saying that the fights should be banned because in my opinion I don't think they should. The players should realize the type of seriousness there is with fighting. They may not intend to cut another player or cause them a concussion but it just may happen all because they want the fans to be happy and excited and not just sit through a boring game of guys just skating back and forth .

I didn't have much success with finding an answer because like I stated earlier I believe my question is opinion based and it's either you want them to be banned following a complete good reason as to why you want them banned or you just simply don't want them banned with an explanation. However I did find out that more people don't want them banned compared to the people who do. Reading the "banners" opinions and their reasons to ban them actually have made a lot of sense to me. I would hate to watch another player get seriously injured by having his neck sliced open as a result of fighting. Some people say that it's all planned out and that nothing really serious would happen in a hockey fight but there is always that good 50% chance that there might actually be.

On the other hand reading the "non-banners" opinions I fully agree with them. I would rather spend my money on a good game with at least some good hard checking into the boards- punches to the face- jerseys over the head- knocking you flat on your face kind of fight instead of spending it on a game that I would want to scratch my eyes out at or drool on the person next to me because I fell asleep. All in all it's back to the fact you either want them to be banned or you don't. We may never know the answer until the day they actually become banned.

Final Reflection

Starting my search four weeks ago to answer my “BIG” question, Should I become a Veterinarian? I had to answer some foundational questions. Is this the right career choice? What type of Veterinarian would I be successful at? What are some of the procedures Vets do when performing surgery? And how much do they make yearly?

Researching these foundational questions I learned, they help animals and humans by looking for diseases that can be in animals that are harmful to humans. Some Veterinarians do Private-practices on large animals and other Vets work in animal hospitals, working on the basic house pets such as cats, dogs, hamsters, etc.

The different types of veterinarian’s they stated were; companion animal vet (dog, cat, and exotic pets), shelter animal vet, dairy vet, beef cow, etc. Also if you pursue in being one kind of Vet you can “change your mind, or be available to help in another area if needed.” When becoming a Vet your education does not fade. You can practice Veterinarian studies in several practices. There are Private Practices, Government, Teaching and research, and some work in their own fields. In Private Practices, they examine them; perform surgery and dentistry, take blood and urine tests, and manage there own business.

“Surgery performed on animals by veterinarians. Most veterinarians perform surgery, but it is also possible to specialize in surgery by becoming board certified”. Board certified, a designation earned by a person to assure that he/she is qualified to assure that he/she is qualified to perform a job. Each “patient” has to have a chart. The chart consists of “the surgery or other procedure was performed, exactly what was done, what follow-up medical procedures should now be carried out, what exercise routine is appropriate, and what foods the patient should eat and avoid”. Explained how Laser Surgery was a better option than Regular Surgery. Laser Surgery is "recognized in human and Veterinary medicine for its benefits to both the patient and the surgeon". Its carbon dioxide laser reduces pain, bleeding, swelling, infection, and makes a quicker recovery. Also this "procedure" smoothly cuts or removes the tissue. It cuts or removes the tissue. It is recommended for cyst removal, ear crop, neuter, and many other procedures.

About less than a year they make $55,114; between 5-9 years they make $68,779 and twenty years or more it's about $75,893. "Just as there is no one kind of veterinarian, there is no single average salary of a veterinarian, nor is there one easy answer to the question 'What is the salary of a veterinarian?' Researching Careers - Veterinarians Salary by Years Experience shows that veterinarian salaries increase steadily with experience, making it a fairly stable career choice." It also depends on the location of where the Veterinarian works. Stating "The average salary of a veterinarian working in San Diego is fairly close to the average salary of a veterinarian working in Boston; vets on either coast are compensated well. The notable standout for earning a top veterinarian salary is Los Angeles, which currently offers the highest veterinarian salaries by far." Basically you need to know the location and what type of Veterinarian you want to be before you can find out how much they make yearly.

This research was a great success not only did I answer my “BIG” question but I found more information on my topic. I found that there are many different Vets, what they do, how they do it and importantly the education never fades. Also researching this information I now know more about what my Career is going to be. Now applying this information to what I already knew I won’t go into the Career and back out of it when I find something I don’t like in the field.

a persons input on abortions!

I asked my mother Diane Cooper age 41 what she thought about abortions and she thinks its a mothers choice whether or not she want to aborted a child! She said she had one before because she had already had 3 children and could not provide the proper care for another child!she said she was on birth control but it was not as effete as it is today!she said after she read my information on the different kinds of abortions she thinks its not fair to have an abortion so late she thinks if you decide to have one it should b during the first 3 months of pregnancy!other wise she feels that it's wrong! My in put on this is i feel abortion is wrong but sometimes you got to do what you got to do and you should decide early if you are going to have one or not!WHATS YOUR OPP ION ON THIS?

Final Week

For the final week in my research I didn't know what else to search for or where to go.I sat around my house and dug through a couple of boxes that I had old hockey tapes in.I went through a few and started to fast forward through the game until I got to a fight and then I stopped to watch the crowds reaction.

The fight was against Rob Ray (Sabres) and Toronto's Tie Domi. From the look on the crowds face I would say that besides watching the game that fight made their night. The looks on their faces were priceless. Ray threw a punch and then another. The people in the front row, I thought that they were going to break the glass they were pounding so hard on it. It seemed like every tape I went through, each fight I watched, Ray was somehow involved.

On another tape it was yet again Domi and Ray going at it and this time the tables were turned. Domi was getting the hits and the crowd didn't seem to be so moved just because it was still in Buffalo and well we don't like the Leafs so everyone was booing Domi like usual. As I'm still trying to figure out why people want the fights to be banned I can't seem to find any REAL answer. It just seems like there is none. It's just a matter of opinions and the people's reasons behind their opinions.

Almost there not quite finished

My search on criminal psychology continues I have interviewed many many people, but my results still remain the same so i decided to just go online and research the topic myself so I decided to go to google and type in criminal psychology one day when i was at home just sitting in my living room watching spongebob squarepants eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and drinking a nice cold glass or strawberry milk (it was reallllllyyyy reallyyyy tasty) so anywho whie I was on the computer searching for my topic I came across a site about criminal psychology it had all of the answers to my questions and many more informational facts about criminal psychology but then we blew a fuse and everthing shut down and i lost all of my information that i had found and when I attempted to find it again I couldn't I coudnt remember any of the things that i had went through in order to get the information!!!!! interview on gangs

I interviewed Danny and Larry about gangs to help me with my project and my first question was how do you feel about gangs? Danny feels that gangs are over rated, "why fight over just a street name".Larry said,"that they are pointless".I asked them was they apart of a gang both said no,then i ask have they ever lost a family member due to a gang related problem Danny said"no,but she has seen one of her friend's get hurt by one and Larry said"no but almost",and my last question was do you feel that if gangs didn't exist that the world would be a peaceful place Danny said that she feel that it would be a better place for teen but at the same time it still would be violence but not as much an Larry feel that it wouldn't make a difference.

Danny is wearing some pink jeans with a white and brown blouse and Larry has on a green jacket with some blue jeans. With the interview both was speaking clearly.

week four in the search about nursing

For the last week in the search I found it was hard to think of anything else to look up about nursing that would help answer my question. I think that over the last few weeks I answered pretty much all questions. But after having a discussion with Mr. Malley I realized I had a few more things to search.

I thought I would look up more about what kind of a nurse I would want to be and the different schools in Buffalo that offered it.I thought about becoming a licensed practical nurse because thats what my aunt is and I think that I could always go back to school to become a registered nurse, which takes a higher level of education than an lpn.

So I typed in "lpn schools in buffalo'' into Google and i clicked on one of the sites. It showed a list of all of the schools around Buffalo that offered lpn training. I clicked on a site with a list of some schools in the Buffalo area alot of the schools listed where different boces all over New York. Boces is where I planned to go for nursing.

Third Week Research and Still the Same Info...

As I continue my research I decided to try a different search engine.I went to Infotrac.com and I typed in "hockey fights" in the search field and it was taking forever to load into Firefox. As I was waiting for this thing to load i was helping Heather as was Jill with her citations that she was doing wrong the entire time.

I kept clicking continue like a billion times and still nothing. I decided to exit out and try Safari and well it worked. So I went back to Infotrac.com and redid everything. I searched hockey fights and clicked on the "news"tab that had 72 findings. I went to the second page and found an article that really caught my eye.("Why do ice hockey players enjoy brawling?")

As I opened it I was thinking to myself "ok this is going to be a good article that's going to give me more information that I need and that I don't already know as to why people want the fights banned." Instead if this "great article" I got about a half of a paragraph not even about 3 sentences of stuff I already found out. It basically said the same thing my friend Erica had told me
in the interview I had with her. It said "that the fights are so prevalent in ice hockey because there is so much physical contact and that it is in the interest of giving the people their money's worth."

A program to help gang violence

There are some programs that are trying to help gangs from spreading. One program is called G.R.E.AT which stands for gang resistance educations and training. This program a school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculum. It tired to encourage positive relationships among the community, parents, schools, and law enforcement officers.

This website was confusing to me and also it was very frustrating. The site did give a lot of information at all.

Veterinarian's Salary- Week Four

As I sit here thinking about what to type in google search. I began to chat with Jill and Megan. Then it came to me. What I was going to search was veterinarian's Salary. So I typed it in. Then I realized I needed to use the bathroom. Well I can hold it, such little time and so much research.(google)

On google I found an option that definitely fit my question. What is the average salary Veterinarians make yearly? This website (payscale.com) showed the median salary they make for less than a year to twenty years or more. About less than a year they make $55,114; between 5-9 years they make $68,779 and twenty years or more it's about $75,893. As it states "Just as there is no one kind of veterinarian, there is no single average salary of a veterinarian, nor is there one easy answer to the question 'What is the salary of a veterinarian?' Researching Careers - Veterinarian Salary by Years Experience shows that veterinarian salaries increase steadily with experience, making it a fairly stable career choice."

It also depends on the location of where the Veterinarian works. The notable standout for earning a top veterinarian salary is Los Angeles, which currently offers the highest veterinarian salaries by far." (payscale.com)

Basically you need to know the location and what type of Veterinarian you want to be before you can find out how much they make yearly.

The spread of gang violence

Gang violence has spreads throughout America its increasingly becoming a problem in the rural areas.Regent NYG Survey documents has stated that small towns are not immune to the youth gangs.Police reports in 1996-1998 has stated that 22.6% are persistent gang problems,57% are persistent absence gang problems, and 20.4% are transitory gang problems. Also these percents are continued to raise.
Police say gangs a problem in Gaston.According to a police quote"they have to stop the and stop it now".

This was a little frustrating at times but for the most of it was great.

Week Three In The Search About Nursing

I started my three week of research right here in the English room. I went to Infotrac and typed in ''qualities it takes to be a nurse'' and nothing useful came up, so then I just simply typed in ''nursing'',and I still couldn't find anything. So I just went to Google and while I was waiting for it to load I put on some cherry blossom hand sanitizer on and I gave some to Megan and Heather to use too.

Once Google loaded I again typed in ''qualities it takes to be a nurse" and a lot of websites came up so I clicked the first one,it was a website wiki answers, where someone had already asked the question and other people answered it. The one answer said "friendly and cares for the patients''. Another answer said "good communication skills". I think that have those skills but I decided to look some more because there has to be a lot more that it takes to be a nurse than just that.

So than I clicked on another website and it basically said a nurse should have "kindness, good common sense, carefulness, quietness, neatness, handiness, cheerfulness."I also think that I have those qualities and maybe nursing is the right career for me.
